Art Club 30 Day Challenge - SAA

The SAA are putting together an article for Paint about the 'Art Club Thirty Day Challenge' - which was launched in the September issue (page 33) - and they are looking for Art Clubs to feature in their magazine. They have contacted York Art Society to see if we would like to take part.

They would also like to do follow-up articles about this challenge in future issues, focussing on clubs which have read about it and decided to take it up.

If you think you would like to participate in this, please can you let Linda Sturgeon know at the next artist demonstration meeting on 21 October.

Thank you

Wetherby Art Exhibition 7 Oct

Several members of York Art Society are holding an exhibition of their work at Wetherby Town Hall on 7 October 10am - 5pm. Free entry.

'Art in the Window' Trail

Themed Trail, Sat 9 Sep - Tue 31 Oct 2017, free entry

After the success of the Micklegate Run - which saw 20,000 people flock to the street - the area's traders are planning to bring a little artistic spirit to their road.

Shops and businesses on Micklegate are hosting an Art in the Window trail - giving local artists somewhere to show their work while raising money for a York charity.

The trail will start on Saturday, September 9 and run through September and October.

Kim Oldfield of the Blossom Street Gallery, who helped organise the initiative, said they were thrilled with the number of artists applying to take part, the quality of their work, and the support from local businesses. During the trail there will also be a children's quiz and competition to encourage families to join in. The art will all be for sale, with a percentage of the price going to The Island - the young people's mentoring charity in York.

Art Exhibition Easingwold 7 & 8 Oct 10am-4pm

Congratulations to York Art Society member Michael Leetham-Cooper, from the East Riding of Yorkshire, who has had his painting published in The Artist magazine as the Editor's Gallery Choice.

YAS welcomes new members from York and the surrounding areas and is always pleased to see how well members are doing from their exhibitions and publications.

Well done Michael!

York Medical Rooms Exhibition

The three-day exhibition at York Medical Rooms, Stonegate was a whirlwind event with lots of paintings displayed in its two quaint, shabby chic rooms with a separate room for cards, unframed originals and prints.

Artists were also at work in the beautiful garden including artist Julie Lightburn.

There was a raffle of cards and a painting by Julia Williams purchased in the first few minutes of the event opening!

Did you exhibit? Did you sell your work? Did you paint in the garden? Let me know your stories for the next newsletter - email katrina.whitehead@hotmail.com or come and speak to me at the next demo.
