Wetherby Art Exhibition 7 Oct

Several members of York Art Society are holding an exhibition of their work at Wetherby Town Hall on 7 October 10am - 5pm. Free entry.

'Art in the Window' Trail

Themed Trail, Sat 9 Sep - Tue 31 Oct 2017, free entry

After the success of the Micklegate Run - which saw 20,000 people flock to the street - the area's traders are planning to bring a little artistic spirit to their road.

Shops and businesses on Micklegate are hosting an Art in the Window trail - giving local artists somewhere to show their work while raising money for a York charity.

The trail will start on Saturday, September 9 and run through September and October.

Kim Oldfield of the Blossom Street Gallery, who helped organise the initiative, said they were thrilled with the number of artists applying to take part, the quality of their work, and the support from local businesses. During the trail there will also be a children's quiz and competition to encourage families to join in. The art will all be for sale, with a percentage of the price going to The Island - the young people's mentoring charity in York.

Art Exhibition Easingwold 7 & 8 Oct 10am-4pm

Congratulations to York Art Society member Michael Leetham-Cooper, from the East Riding of Yorkshire, who has had his painting published in The Artist magazine as the Editor's Gallery Choice.

YAS welcomes new members from York and the surrounding areas and is always pleased to see how well members are doing from their exhibitions and publications.

Well done Michael!

York Medical Rooms Exhibition

The three-day exhibition at York Medical Rooms, Stonegate was a whirlwind event with lots of paintings displayed in its two quaint, shabby chic rooms with a separate room for cards, unframed originals and prints.

Artists were also at work in the beautiful garden including artist Julie Lightburn.

There was a raffle of cards and a painting by Julia Williams purchased in the first few minutes of the event opening!

Did you exhibit? Did you sell your work? Did you paint in the garden? Let me know your stories for the next newsletter - email katrina.whitehead@hotmail.com or come and speak to me at the next demo.

Please remember to post your flyers on notice boards, in shops, libraries, dentists, doctors and to hand them out to friends and family.

Thank you.

Appeal for more paintings for exhibition

We are a little short of paintings for the 205th Exhibition, (we expected 150, but have only 75 so far).

Please could those members who have already submitted paintings, bring another one along, and maybe more, to put in reserve if some are sold.  We have space on the submission form for another painting, and I have made lots more artists cards to bring along.

Note that paintings submitted to previous YAS exhibitions are allowed in this exhibition.

There will be no hanging charge for these extra paintings.

Fiona Calder - Crowdfunding Appeal

Former York Art Society member and local York artist Fiona Calder is really excited to have launched a crowdfunding appeal!

To join her in 'An Artistic Celebration of Flowers' and learn more about her appeal go to http://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/fiona-calder-designs...

Her aim is to launch her own range of greetings cards, and to hopefully introduce lots of other new beautiful flower art products to her online store, such as mugs, coasters and jewellery.

To see her beautiful floral prints and her new card collection go to www.fionacalderdesigns.co.uk

Everyone who generously helps with her crowdfunding appeal will be rewarded with lots of lovely cards or prints. All rewards offer excellent value for money, from just £15 for 6 greeting cards, or other rewards of gorgeous flower art prints and greeting cards to match everyone's budget.

If you don't want to pledge you can still help by telling any flower and art loving friends about it.

All pledges must be made by 2:06pm on the 29th July 2017, so if you're interested please don't delay!

Fiona would like to express her deepest thanks to everyone for their help.

Sue Ford Workshop

Our recent Sue Ford Collage Workshop on 3rd June was a great success.

13 members turned up laden with magazines and acrylic paints and were guided through the process of creating a collage painting with Sue's expert advice. Not much talking took place as we were all out of our comfort zone and all that could be heard was the ripping of magazines. Time passed so quickly and in our enthusiasm, some of us missed a proper lunch break.

Thank you to the members that took part in The Challenge!

Some great pieces were produced.  Not all were finished on the day, but hopefully we will see some of them as completed work in the next exhibition at the Medical Rooms in September.

If you wish to see more of Sue's own work, she will be exhibiting at The Danby Moors Centre National Park, between June 29th and July 25th. Open daily 10 to 4pm
