Merry Christmas from York Art Society

York Art Society would like to wish all members & friends a wonderful Christmas and a prosperous 2017.

Thanks to Julie Lightburn for the image above.

Posters for the 2017 Exhibition

An urgent  reminder from Julie Lightburn that she's currently finalising the poster and fliers for the 2017 Exhibition.

If you have images you wish to submit to help publicise the next event, she requires your submissions by the end of the year.

Julie is using her own time over the Christmas holidays to pull the work together, but at the time of writing this, only two members had sent in any pictures.

Philip Boville - Fire and Light in acrylic

Industrial artist Philip Boville gave a demonstration on how to paint the inside of the Mallard train at the latest York Art Society meeting. Taking inspiration from a photograph, he was able to capture the ‘fire and light’ from the steam train and all the industrial aspects of the train therein.

Philip traditionally used to paint all the fine details in a photorealistic style with acrylic and oil, however, as his work has grown over the years, he has understood the importance of a more impressionistic style of painting to give more of a dramatic effect.

Members certainly appreciated the time that Philip gave to impart his knowledge and share his remarkable skill.
